Cluster Putaway

Cluster Putaway

Cluster Putaway

Cluster putaway allows a user to pick-up multiple pieces of work at once and put them away to different locations. This option builds a cluster for putaway by license plate (LP), bypassing the need to pick-up one LP, put it away, come back to pick-up another LP, put it away, and so on.

First of all, the Putaway Cluster Profile needs to be configured, this module is only available in AWAX module.

The Putaway Cluster Profile, determines where the inventory will be staged prior to be stored in the final destination. The Putaway Cluster Profile can be found on Advanced Warehouse Management-> Setup

Assign Putaway Cluster at Receipt (flag): this flag will determine if the product will be automatically assigned to a cluster profile ID. If the flag is checked, the receive and sort process will be a 1 step process. If the flag is not checked, the receive and sort process will be a 2 step process. On the first step, the worker will receive the product and assign a LP. On the second step, the worker will scan the Putaway Cluster ID and then scan all the LP’s that will be in that Cluster ID.

Putaway Cluster Assignment: it determines how a cluster profile will be allocated.

Manual: user will manually scan/select the desired Cluster ID.

Auto: the system will automatically select the Cluster ID for the worker. The worker is only required to scan the desired Cluster ID one time, when the first item is selected. After that, the system will automatically select the same Cluster ID if the requirements meet the query for the same cluster profile ID.

Generate Cluster ID: this determines if the system automatically creates the Work Cluster ID (LPN) or the user will manually assign one.

Putaway Cluster Locate: this field will determine when the product is located (location directives).

At Receipt: upon receipt of product it is located.

At Cluster close: at close of the cluster the product is located.

User Initiated: the user will scan the cluster, pick up an item and scan the LP assigned to it. This will initiate the location of the item.

Putaway Cluster Per User: this will determine if a cluster is shared across multiple users. For instance, in receiving many people may receive and sort to the same position. However, in Returns each associate will have their own cluster they are sorting to.

Work Unit Break: determine how work units are created (i.e. Consolidates, Individual) under the Work Cluster.

Consolidate: all product/qty assigned into this Cluster will be rolled up under a single Work Unit.

Individual: separate Work Units will be created for each product/qty receipt and “linked” by the Cluster ID.

RF Menu Items:

There are three parts on the RF Menu Item for Cluster Putaway: Receive and Sort, Assign Putaway Cluster and Cluster Putaway.

Receive and Sort

Image 3

  • This is what tells the system to sort the inventory to a cluster upon receiving.
  • The Sort and Assign Putaway Cluster flag needs to be checked.

Assign to Cluster

Image 4

  • This menu item is to assign multiple LP’s to a Cluster for Putaway
  • If the flag for Assign Putaway Cluster at Receipt is checked, this menu item will only be useful to close Cluster ID’s.

Image 5

  • This will be used to putaway the Cluster ID after it has been closed.

Example #1:

For this scenario, we will use the Returns Putaway Profile ID. This Cluster Profile ID will be used when the inventory work quantity is 4 or less.

Returns Putaway Profile ID

Image 6

  • The assign putaway cluster at receipt flag is not checked, this will be 2-step receiving and sorting process.
  • The Putaway Cluster Locate is User directed, in this case the worker has the ability of scanning the Cluster ID and select any item he/she wants to putaway next. After the worker selects the item, he/she needs to scan the LP of the item and put it away.

Image 7

  • The Query shows that if the inventory work quantity is less than 5, the Returns Putaway Cluster profile ID will be used.

In our first example we will receive a total of 2 pieces for item A0001 and 2 pieces for item L0101. The Returns Putaway Cluster Profile ID will be used.  We will take all 4 pieces to FRS Zone and the worker will dictate where to store the product (user directed).

3. Scan the PO number and press OK. Scan the item number and press OK

image 11

4. Scan the first item number and press OK. Enter the quantity and press OK.

image 12

5. Enter License Plate and press OK. Work will be completed for the first step of the Receive and Sort process. Receive item L0101 following steps 4 and 5.

image 136. At this point, the Putaway Cluster Profile will also show on the Work Id.

image 14
7. The second step of the Sort and Receive process, is to assign a Putaway Cluster ID to the LP’s. Go to the Assign Putaway Cluster menu item.

image 15

8. Scan the Cluster ID, press OK. Scan the LP and press OK.

image 16

9. Scan the second LP and the same Clusted ID will be assigned to it.

image 1710. Continue receiving and assigning LP’s to this Cluster ID until full or ready to putaway. The contents can be viewed from the Work Cluster form on: Warehouse management-> Inquires-> Work Clusters

image 18

11. After the Cluster ID is full or ready to putaway, the Cluster ID needs to be closed. Stay on the same Assign Putaway Cluster menu item to close the Cluster ID. To close the Cluster ID, press Close Cluster. Note: once the Cluster ID has been closed, the Cluster ID can’t be reopened.image 19
12. To putaway the cluster, use the Cluster Putaway menu item.

image 20

13. Scan the Cluster ID and press OK.

image 21

Because the User directed option is selected on the Returns Putaway Profile ID, we have the ability to select any item (LP) we want to put away. This option is very effective when the worker doesn’t have visibility of all the items. For example: the cluster contains different tears of levels of work.

image 22

14. Scan License Plate and press Ok.

image 23

15. We are receiving only 2 pieces; the location directive will be user directed. The worker will need to select a location for the item. Scan the location, press OK and then verify the location.

image 24

16. Scan second LP and press OK.

image 25

17. Scan location, press OK, and Cluster will be completed. The system will upload the inventory information and work will be completed.

Example #2:

For the second scenario, we will use the two Bulk Putaway Cluster Profile ID’s (S Zone and V Zone). In Zone S we will store home good products and in Zone V we will store electronics. The two Cluster Profile ID’s have the same setup, except for the query.

Bulk Putaway Profile ID

image 27

  • The assign putaway cluster at receipt flag is checked, all three Cluster Profile ID’s will be a 1-step process.
  • The Putaway Cluster Assignment is on Auto and the system will automatically assign a Cluster ID.
  • The Putaway Cluster Locate is At receipt; the location directives will be run to find a Put location when the item is received.

Query for S Zone

image 28

The Query tells that if the work quantity is 5 or more and the location (Zone) is S Floor, the Bulk Putaway S Zone Cluster Profile will be used.

Query for V Zone

image 29

The Query tells that if the work quantity is 5 or more and the location (Zone) is V Floor, the Bulk Putaway V Zone Cluster Profile will be used.

In our second example we will receive 4 different items: ShirtFCB, Goodvibe01, A0001 and L0101. The first two items will go to Zone S and the other two items will go to Zone V.  We will receive a total of 10 pieces for each item.

image 30
1. Create PO

image 31

2. Receive inventory using the Receive and Sort menu item.

image 323. First scan the PO number and press OK.

image 334. Scan the first item, enter the quantity and the License Plate.

image 345. Scan Cluster ID and press OK (1-step Receive and Sort process)

image 35

*Because items ShirtFCB and Goodvibe01 meet the same criteria in the Cluster Profile ID query and because the method of assigning clusters at receipt is Auto, there will be no need to scan the Cluster ID again. The system will automatically select PalletZoneS*

6. Scan second item, enter quantity and License Plate.

image 367. After entering the License Plate, the system will automatically assign Cluster ID: In example #1 the worker had to manually select the Cluster ID and physically moved the product to the tote. In this example, even though the system automatically assigns a Cluster ID, the worker still needs to physically move the product onto the pallet.

image 37

8. Continue receiving and assigning clusters to the rest of the items. After all items have been assigned a cluster, you can view the content in the Work details form and in the Work clusters form (Warehouse Management-> Inquiries-> Work clusters).

image 38

image 39
9. When the clusters are full or ready to putaway, use the Assign Putaway Cluster menu item to close the clusters.

image 4010. To close the clusters, scan the Cluster ID, press OK and then press Close Cluster.

image 41

11. After all the Cluster ID’s have been closed, use the Cluster Putaway menu item to putaway the clusters.

image 42

12. Scan the Cluster ID and press OK.

image 43

13. Because we are receiving 10 units for each item, the system will select the Bulk Putaway Cluster Profile ID. In this example, the system will dictate where the Put location will be. The worker will travel down the aisle, putting away the items and manually verifying the locations.

image 44

14. When the worker gets at the end of the aisle or zone, the worker should not have any work left.

image 45

15. After the cluster has been put away, the Cluster profile ID will no longer show on the Work clusters form. However, you can find the Cluster profile ID attached to the Work ID on the Work details form.

Tips and Tricks:

You can use the Work clusters form to manually close or cancel a Cluster ID.

image 48
1. When clicking on Close Cluster function, you will receive a message, the status of the Custer ID will be Closed and ready to be putaway.

image 49

image 50

2. After closing a Cluster ID (manually or using the RF) BUT before the putaway process, you can cancel the Cluster ID by clicking on Break Cluster You will receive a message and all the work in that Cluster ID will be canceled. The Cluster ID will disappear from the Work clusters form.
