Catch Weight Functionality Available in AWAX

AWAX (Advanced Warehousing for AX) adds onto the base AX R3 catch weight functionality by integrating it into the warehouse management process.

One of the benefits of Blue Horseshoe’s latest release of their Advanced Warehousing solution is the expansion of base AX catch weight functionality. Catch weight processing is used for items whose actual weight can vary. These items typically are packaged and sold in a consistent physical units of measure, such as a case or carton, and priced by weight.

By extending the base AX catch weight functionality to the Warehouse Management module, it becomes possible to process catch weight items through existing warehouse processes. This includes different methods for capturing the weight of inventory on the mobile device or pack screen at the time of receipt, production, and sale.

Since the catch weight functionality that is included in AWAX is an extension of the base functionality, the flag that designates an item as catch weight in base will be the same flag that designates an item as catch weight during warehouse processes. The Inventory unit, purchase unit, and sales unit should all be set up with a unit that has a “Mass” unit class. A “CW unit” will need to be setup that will be the smallest physical unit by which the item is tracked. Ex. ea or cs. Next the CW unit needs to have a nominal weight assigned which will serve as the ideal weight for that unit. A maximum weight and minimum weight must be setup and will define the acceptable weight range for a single CW unit.

The configurations that are not a part of base and are setup that is added by AWAX have to do with defining how and when the weight of the catch weight item will be captured. These configurations can be found on the released product under the Warehouse Management fast tab.

(Configurations listed below)

Operational Flows

CW Tag Tracked
This approach is used for items that do not change weight over time. CW tagged items will only have the product weight captured at the time of receipt. CW tags are applied to physical units of measure and can be applied automatically with the “Auto generate CW tag Id” flag selected on the receiving menu item. This CW tag is not stored in inventory. During the inbound process, items can be set up to capture weight for the CW tag in two different ways.
• Aggregate weight capture will prompt for the full receipt quantity and the weight is spread evenly over all CW tags.
• Non-Aggregate weight capture will capture the weight of each individual CW tag.
This approach is used for items that do not change weight over time. So during the outbound process, instead of weighing the item and entering a weight, the picker will just be prompted to scan a CW tag and the weight that was assigned to the CW tag at the time of receiving will be used during invoicing.

CW Capture
This approach is used for items that can change weight during storage and needs to have the weight captured during the outbound process as well the inbound process. During receiving, items can be setup to have the weight captured in two different ways.
• Aggregate weight capture will prompt for the full receipt quantity and the weight is spread evenly over the full receipt quantity.
• Non-Aggregate weight capture will capture the weight per unitized quantity.

During this operational flow the outbound process will be captured as well.  On the item, a weight capture method will need to be setup to determine if the user will capture weight by the individual CW unit or if they will capture the weight for the entire picking quantity.  The time at which the weight is captured will also need to be setup.  Items can be configured to capture weight during either picking or packing.
