2017 Supply Chain Summit Recap

The 2017 Blue Horseshoe Summit welcomed industry professionals from 30 different companies across the nation who gathered in Carmel for a two-day immersion into the rapidly changing world of supply chain.

“We are here to seek the challenges – and the solutions – of the growing supply chain world,” said Brian Cason in his opening remarks at the Summit, which was held at the Renaissance Hotel, right next to Blue Horseshoe’s new corporate headquarters building that will open this fall.

Brief Overview

The Summit welcomed Paul Bugenstein of DHL Supply Chain as a keynote speaker to discuss the latest trends in transportation – including the growing world of “crowd shipping” where on-demand labor is rapidly becoming part of the nation’s consumer supply chain.

Paul discussed how crowd shipping offers advantages in improved costs, speed, flexibility and scalability – packages are now being delivered twice as fast as two years ago, ordering has become more convenient, and technological advances have made tracking delivery status information very easy.

Another key speaker was Alex Ketels from Bells Brewery, who told fascinating stories of the challenges, lessons, and successes Bells has experienced in growing from a garage brewery, to the 7th largest craft brewery in the United States.

Thanks to its transition to Microsoft Dynamics AX, Bells is now one of the most successful craft breweries in the nation and has grown from that small Michigan brewer to distributing 27 different beers in 32 states (and we are proud to be their partner).

The Summit also included a presentation on Global Order Promising by our very own John Foster, Steve Shebuski and Phil Winstead. Additionally, two case studies were presented: One on Voice Picking in the Warehouse, presented by Jim Butler (who flew in from our Amsterdam office) alongside Dave Slagle of Honeywell/Vocollect; and one on the challenges faced by Peepers to handle order spikes and demand planning, presented by John Hart of Peepers by PeeperSpecs.

Day 2 of the Summit included an informative Dynamics AX / Dynamics 365 Roundtable discussion on the upgrade path and process with our customers currently upgrading, or considering an upgrade project. And our Solution Center was also at full strength alongside our partners, including Honeywell, Sana, ExtenData, Data Masons and MidAmerica Technology.

Participants also got a sneak peek of our new corporate headquarters!

As always, the Blue Horseshoe Summit was punctuated with awesome gatherings at a few of our favorite places in Carmel – the Brockway Pub and Danny Boy Beer Works.

We want to thank all those who attended our Summit and  extend special thanks to our sponsors who helped make this event successful. We look forward to seeing you all next year!
